As part of Blue Light Partnership (BLP)’s Strategic Fit Commitment, one of the consortium’s main focus is to build strong relationships with local schools and businesses and to create a partnering approach throughout the duration of the project.
In December last year, BLP attended a careers day at a local school in Bridgwater, close to the Express Park construction site. Students at Bridgwater College Academy had the opportunity to spend the day practicing interview techniques, receiving advice on writing CVs and completing application forms.
Employers from across Somerset visited the Academy to conduct interviews with every year 11 student for 15 minutes. Students were able to experience what it would be like to apply for a real job and how to deal with the application process.
Bill Revans, Senior Teacher from Bridgwater College Academy sent this note:
“I just wanted to say thank you to you all for coming in and doing the mock job interviews today with our Year 11 students.
The opportunity for our students to be interviewed by people they have never met before is hugely valuable. Firstly it gets the "first time" interview nerves out of the way, secondly they get the opportunity to get high quality feedback on their performance which they will take into college, apprenticeship and job interviews in the future; and lastly it helps them to become more aspirational about their career and educational futures.
It was extremely valuable to our students for you to give up your precious time to help us. We have already received lots of positive feedback from the students. On their behalf – Thank you for your time and energy.”
